BL: Welcome back to another “Fruit Bites” brought to you by Valent U.S.A. With us again is Valent’s Allison Walston. And this week Allison, we are talking about ReTain Plant Growth Regulator to reduce storage disorders.

AW: we’ve conducted research on ReTain’s ability to decrease scald, stem bowl split, watercore and greasiness.

In hot years, pears are more susceptible to scald. For Anjou, Bartlett and Starkrimson pears, a ½ to one pouch rate of ReTain applied 7 days before harvest, had better pack-outs, firmer fruit and less scald.

BL: and in apples?

Reduce watercore in Fuji with sequential applications at 28 then 14 days before harvest.

Reduce stem bowl splits and greasiness in Gala and have less soft scald and delayed but reduced bitter pit in Honeycrisp with ReTain at ½ to one pouch applied 7 days before harvest. Always read the label and follow the 7-day PHI for ReTain.

BL: Well, thanks Allison. Join us again next time for Fruit Bites, brought to you by Valent. Until then, I’m Bob Larson.
