Award Winning Washington Grown

I’m Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.

The Washington Grown campaign, a joint effort by various farm groups throughout the state that looks to tell the true story of agriculture, was officially launched in the spring of 2013. One of the hallmark pieces of that campaign has been the “Washington Grown” TV show, which launched in October the same year. Recently the “Washington Grown” television show was awarded a Bronze Telly Award. As a highly respected national and international competition, the Telly Awards receives over 13 thousand entries annually from all fifty states. Ryan Holterhoff with the Washington State Potato Commission explains what a season of the award winning “Washington Grown” television show entails.

HOLTERHOFF: There are a total of 52 different segments - overall 13 episodes that give us a chance to tell 52 very unique and interesting stories of Washington ag or Washington food. An episode will take someone from that farm to their plate. So typically an episode will start out at a one of our local restaurants here throughout the state and then interview a farmer that is supplying whatever ingredient is highlighted at that restaurant. We’ll also hit on some other fun and interesting industry issues and topics.

Holterhoff says that the 30 minute program blends educational information about Washington’s farms with a foodie flare in order to appeal to Washington’s food conscious consumers. Due to the success of the program a second season is now in production and will launch this fall. Once aired all Washington Grown episodes will be available on the Washington Grown website at www.wagrown.com.

That’s Washington Ag Today.
