More Details from USDA on Data Modernization, Farmer Sentiment Up

After a series of listening sessions, USDA has rolled out the data modernization plan. Secretary Brooke Rollins,

“It's a call for government technology that feels as intuitive and trustworthy as the best digital experience that you use every day outside of your interface with USDA. “

The plan includes modernizing data reporting with pre-filled applications, a pilot program to enhance crop acreage and yield estimates, modernizing technology infrastructure, integrating data and technology platforms, and expanding trust and transparency with producers.

And farmer sediment approved again in August, according to the latest Purdue University CME Group Ag Economy Barometer. The index climbed nine points to 135, marking its second consecutive monthly gain. Most of the improvement came from farmers feeling more optimistic about the year ahead. The future expectations index rose 11 points, while the current conditions index increased just one point for the first time since June of last year. More farmers say they expect their financial situation to improve over the next 12 months than expect it to get worse. 28% are anticipating better conditions compared with 24% who expect things to deteriorate. The House passed its version of the continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the month. The bill now heads to the president's desk for signature.
