Food Recovery Caucus Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. We waste far too much food in this country while there are plenty of people who could use it and who need it.U.S. Representatives Dan Newhouse, of Sunnyside, and Chellie Pingree, of Maine, have relaunched the Congressional Food Recovery Caucus that focuses on providing the food our farmers and ranchers provide to those in need …
NEWHOUSE … “I think it really accomplishes more than that. It helps to demonstrate and educate the American public on how important our domestic food production is.”
Because, Newhouse says our country has changed so much over the years …
NEWHOUSE … “You know, it used to be the majority of Americans we on farms or worked on farms, and it was an agrarian society. That is not the case anymore. A very small percentage of Americans have any ties to agriculture.”
And that, Newhouse says amounts to a continuing frustration
…
NEWHOUSE … “That we have to educate all the time people as to the importance of the agricultural industry. And so, I think overall, that’s going to help us tell that story and hopefully keep ag at the forefront of good policy decisions and not forget how important producing domestically our food supply is to this country.”
The Caucus, Newhouse says is trying to accomplish several things …
NEWHOUSE … “You asking about it is very helpful. It helps get the word out there that our American agricultural industry is vital to our country.”
Newhouse says the Food Recovery Caucus will continue to educate Members of Congress and staff, and the public.
