Harvest Season - Enjoy

From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. Fall is upon us here in Washington and that means it’s time for our delicious tree fruit to come off the trees for everyone to enjoy.

Jon DeVaney, president of the Washington State Tree Fruit Association, says most of what he’s hearing from the apple growers sounds good so far …

DeVANEY … “Actually, lots of good feedback from folks thinking that the harvest is going well. We have not had too many weather challenges. The crop quality, we’re hearing, it looks excellent.”

DeVaney says there was no pre-harvest estimate for the apples this year, and that’s okay …

DeVANEY … “But we do get anecdotal feedback from the industry and the feedback is very positive about the crop quality this year. There’s always challenges, but overall things are looking good.”

And that, DeVaney says just gives us every reason to be thankful …

DeVANEY … “Just a good reminder that this is the great time of year to really enjoy our industries’ products. You know, fall is synonymous with apple harvest and pear harvest and this is a great time to really highlight our products, to enjoy them, to recommend them to your friends and neighbors and extended family. And make sure that people get that great experience and connect it back to the people who produce these crops. Now is a great time to be talking about our industry and what the folks in our industry do.”

DeVaney says he’s looking forward to hearing more from all the tree fruit growers at this year’s WSTFA Annual Meeting and Cherry Institute in early December.
