WA Political Outlook for Ag Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Following an election year, there will be a lot of political changes at the federal level. Here in Washington, we’ll have a new Governor in Bob Ferguson, but how different that will be remains to be seen.Pam Lewison, Ag Director at the Washington Policy Center will be watching closely …
LEWISON … “You know, there’s always good and bad, right? But I think there are some things that I’m sort of concerned about and there are some things that I’m, uuhhhh, I don’t know if I’d say cautiously optimistic, maybe I’ll put it that way, about as well.”
But there’s at least one bit of potentially good news …
LEWISON … “The transition team that Governor-elect Ferguson has put together seems to be a bipartisan team, which I am relieved to hear.”
And some of them, Lewison says should be familiar with our challenges …
LEWISON … “It includes some folks that are good, ag-friendly people. So that’s reassuring, at least to me from a policy perspective.”
That, Lewison says could keep us on a decent path …
LEWISON … “But there’s certainly still legislation coming that is stuff we need to watch out for because it’s going to be tricky.”
Tune in tomorrow for what that tricky legislation might look
like.
