From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. There is plenty of talk about President-elect Trump’s cabinet nominees, but many are wondering what Ag Secretary nominee Brooke Rollins brings to the table.

Kam Quarles, CEO at the National Potato Council, says she’s may not have the experience some expected, but she does have experience working with the President-elect …

QUARLES … “She’s obviously been very important in President Trump’s world. She worked in his White House the first term. She currently runs his Super-Pac, which to me that would mean she’s got more of a direct line to the President than perhaps some of the other nominees for other agencies. So, I think that’s a positive.”

Besides, Quarles says experience brings no guarantees …

QUARLES … “Some folks may get wrapped around the axel about her not being a Senator who sat on the Ag Committee or, you know, not having significant ag policy experience, but you know I can point to Secretaries of Agriculture who had all the ag policy experience in the world, and they just crashed and burned.”

So, Quarles will look on the positive side …

QUARLES … “I think there’s a lot of reasons to be optimistic about her nomination, not just the speed of it but also kind of her background. I think that could be a real positive in the world of the Trump administration.”

Quarles says we’ll see, adding he’s braced for everything.
