June Wheat Field Days

June Wheat Field Days

The annual wheat field days will be here so. Happening at multiple locations at varying times between June 9th and June 15th — at 11 different locations. Go to csucrops.com for the detailed schedule. Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Specialist Dr. Jerry Johnson shares why wheat growers should plan on attending at least one of these field days.
Johnson: “The wheat breeder Scott Haley walks down the row of varieties that are in the wheat variety trial and talks about the different varieties and their characteristics. So it is one thing to read about the characteristics and another thing to have somebody out with the actual variety there in the field showing you some of the characteristics of the varieties. So the variety trial itself — that is what I do is run the variety trial — is comprised of varieties of five different seed companies and CSU and then varieties from five different states as well. The variety trial has a lot of different entries into it. So a farmer who comes here can see the private varieties compared to the public varieties and can hear about the characteristics all in one place.”
