National Wheat Yield Contest
From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson. The National Wheat Foundation has announced 24 national winners in its 2026 National Wheat Yield Contest, representing 10 states, averaging 146.4 bushels per acre.Anne Osborne, Executive Director at the National Wheat Foundation, says it’s about more than just yield …
OSBORNE … “And so these national winners that have already won in yield, they may also get a top quality award. So, that actually brings this next layer to the contest. And labs are getting the wheat samples right now and they’ll analyze them, and our expert panel will look at the results and then we’ll announce the winners of that January 22nd.”
And that includes, Osborne says the Bin Busters …
OSBORNE … “The yields are just tremendous. So, we really like to see that. And what’s fun about that is, yes, it was a tough year for a lot of people, but we also see that there’s potential. You know, when things line up and you’ve done all that you can, picking the right variety and good production practices, and then you get some help from Mother Nature, we get the opportunity to see these Bin Buster yields, and so that’s fun.”
And the fun will continue, Osborne says for all the participants …
OSBORNE … “Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everybody who puts the time in to put their entry in. You know, their going to be recognized at the Commodity Classic, March 2nd in New Orleans.”
Osborne says Montana and Washington each had four national winners.
The contest also recognized four winners in a pilot digital yield category and 71 state winners from 22 states.
State winners in the traditional categories averaged nearly 135 bushels per acre.
