Diesel Challenges Continue
From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson. With the midterms now behind us, problems like high diesel prices still exist for farmers and solutions are still needed.Kam Quarles, President of the National Potato Council told the Eye On Potatoes Podcast, it’s good that the administration has recognized how impactful diesel prices are to all producers …
QUARLES … “It’s been a real challenge. It’s not breaking news that the fuel bills, the diesel bills that people are dealing with today are vastly different than they have been in the past. So, that recognition is good, you need to do something about it in an efficient way in order to minimize the impact or reduce the impact on producers.”
Quarles says times are challenging and getting things done rapidly is difficult for the federal government …
QUARLES … “But this notion of going commodity by commodity and having the federal government sort of ordain whether or not you’re suffering from high diesel prices or fertilizer or whatever, that’s not what the federal government does well.”
They need simple solutions that have worked in the past …
QUARLES … “And that’s what we’re going to encourage them to do. It makes a lot of sense. It’s a smaller government approach that gets money efficiently out the door and keeps family farms in business, whether you’re a title one commodity or a specialty crop commodity.”
Again, that is Kam Quarles, President of the National Potato Council.
