From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Attention specialty crop farmers: if your 2025 crops were impacted by input costs or natural disasters, TODAY is the deadline to finish your application for the USDA’s Assistance For Specialty Crop Farmers program.

Under Secretary Richard Fordyce says many have finished their applications, but many have not …

FORDYCE … “We feel like we are over half based on the number of applications or participants that we expected.”

And, Fordyce says it’s easy to finish …

FORDYCE … “We just want to remind folks, if you’re a specialty crop farmer and you’ve submitted an acreage report, and you know if you have, then you have an application with the blanks filled in and just need to either contact the Farm Service Agency office that’s close to you or get a login.gov account and you’ll be able to view your application online, digitally sign it, and your considered filed and that payment will be headed your direction.”

For those who may be a little fuzzy on the details …

FORDYCE … “It was a program that we announced really in conjunction with the Farmer Bridge Assistance program, you know, back in December. FBA, you know, we rolled right at the end of February. We rolled through that and we got the program really across the finish line. Simultaneously to that, we were working on developing the Assistance for Specialty Crop Farmers.”
