Getting Ag Noticed
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. Whether it’s Washington’s new millionaire’s tax, homelessness, trans girls in sports, or the war in Iran, there are a lot of matters in the news that seem to overshadow the farming crisis here in Washington. But Save Family Farming’s Dillon Honcoop says we can’t allow that to continue …
HONCOOP … “If people are worried about, oh, Howard Schultz decided to retire somewhere else, we’ve got a whole lot bigger problems than that for farming here in Washington state right now. And its things that already happened, decision that Olympia has already made, in the last few years in particular, that have created a lot of this pressure.”
Mainstream media, Honcoop says needs tell the real stories about farming …
HONCOOP … “Like you were saying, we haven’t heard a lot about this. This needs to be on the nightly news. What’s more important, you know, food, water shelter. This is what humans need and that’s what we’re talking about here is food security and our ability to produce food and be resilient in doing it here in Washington.”
As the story tellers, Honcoop says we need to take advantage of every opportunity …
HONCOOP … “I don’t know, maybe because it’s trendy to be talking right now about what’s happening in Iran and tying that to what’s happening locally, well, okay, if that’s what the reason is, fine. We’re going to take that opportunity to say, here’s the truth about what’s really happening in Washington state. We can’t miss these opportunities.”
