NFU on Farm Bill Failure and Beef Export Value

**After the Senate Ag Committee failed to advance the farm bill, National Farmers Union President Rob Larew said farmers cannot afford more delay, and need a farm bill that addresses today’s challenges and future needs.
Larew says there were encouraging signs of bipartisanship, including a vote to reinstate mandatory country-of-origin labeling and funding local food procurement programs.
The bill also included year-round sale of E15 that will benefit both farmers and consumers.
**Although volume of U.S. beef exports was down slightly in June, the value was up to $790 million, according to the U.S. Meat Export Federation.
President Dan Halstrom says one key value market was Taiwan and their continued demand for less utilized cuts.
That, combined with beef demand out of Latin America, specifically, the Dominican Republic.
Taking China out of the equation has lowered export volumes, but increased value.
**As farm bill negotiations continue, the National Pork Producers Council encourages the Senate Ag Committee to pass a bipartisan farm bill focused on keeping pig farming affordable, checks the overreach of California’s Prop 12, and offers the best care for animals.
NPPC President Rob Brenneman says the farm bill must include the ask of America’s 60,000-plus pork producers to STOP the threat of a state-by-state patchwork of farm animal housing laws spurred by Prop 12.
