Farm Bill Reminder
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. More than a month ago, the House Ag Committee passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act on a bipartisan basis.Brian Glenn, American Farm Bureau’s director of government affairs, says it’s time for Congress to continue that progress …
GLENN … “This shows momentum for Congress to get this done. In terms of next steps, House leadership now must bring the farm bill to the floor to be considered and voted on. We are also urging Senate Ag Committee leadership to advance their own farm bill work as well.”
Glenn says the farm bill should be a priority now that Congress is back from Easter recess …
GLENN … “Congressional leadership must act quickly to get this done, and I think that is heard from even the highest levels of leadership, that they want to deliver on this. So, we will continue to share that message, and it's important that everyone continues to share the message of the need to get a farm bill done.”
Glenn says U.S. agriculture is working off of the THIRD extension of the 2018 farm bill, and it’s time to get new legislation in place …
GLENN … “While we are very appreciative of the important farm safety net enhancements made in the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act, those updates don't kick into effect until later this year, in October. Farmers deserve an updated and modernized five-year farm bill that properly tackles the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
Again, that’s American Farm Bureau’s Brian Glenn.
