From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Growing leaders in the potato industry is what the Potato Leadership Education Foundation, or Potato LEAF, is all about.

Mike Wenkle, COO at the National Potato Council, says building leaders is all about employee engagement and recent data from Gallup research shows why …

WENKLE … “As we look at North American employees, about 70% are disengaged, meaning that they’re not performing at their highest levels because the environment, the situation, the culture of the organization that they work at really isn’t positioning them and aligning with their values.”

Because, Wenkle says we’re all different with different strengths …

WENKLE … “Really looking at it from a standpoint as you build out your team, as you develop leaders in your organization, are you helping them to grow those things that they’re naturally good at, that is who their personality is, and really help them become a better person of who they are versus who we want them to be.”

So consider, Wenkle says the culture you’re looking for …

WENKLE … “And how you’re investing in your people and what style of leadership is being looked at in an organization, and really a great way for people to not only learn more about themselves, but also to learn how to work and make their team a better team.”

The annual, 10-day Leadership Institute is going on right now with potato industry folks from all over the country.
