NASDA Update
From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson. As the newly elected president of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, Washington State Ag Director Derek Sandison will lead many of the efforts to improve the agricultural industry in our country.Sandison says there’s a long list of challenges for NASDA to prioritize …
SANDISON … “Certainly, Farm Bill, animal disease and preparedness, you know, continued safe use of plant protection products, that sort of thing. We have a strong advocacy role in D.C. and, for that matter, around the country.”
But Sandison says at the top of their list is the renewal of the 2018 Farm Bill …
SANDISON … “Passage of a Farm Bill is extremely important. We’re already a number of years overdue in terms of a new, revised Farm Bill. And there’s so many issues that are facing the agricultural industry in the U.S., and Washington state for that matter, in terms of both ag and ranching.”
Beyond that, Sandison says is negotiating with our two biggest trading partners …
SANDISON … “We have, also, a role dealing with our neighbors in Canada, the ministers of ag in Canada and the directors or secretaries of ag in Mexico. We try to sort out issues that we’re facing with respect to U.S.M.C.A. and related matters.”
Again, that is Washington State Director of Agriculture, and new NASDA president, Derek Sandison.
