From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. At last week’s Summer Meeting in Coeur d’Alene, the National Potato Council had a range of subjects to update folks from the potato industry.

From trade, to environmental, to the latest research, NPC President Ted Tschirky says they covered a lot of hot topics …

TSCHIRKY … “We had Mark Streuli from Olympia, he’s a lobbyist, and he was our moderator for our panel between (Rep) Britt Raybould of Idaho, from the 34th District, and Mary Dye from the 9th District (WA) for a talk about the significance between a blue state and a red state.”

Tschirky says they also talked about things like water issues and Washington state’s gas tax …

TSCHIRKY … “And then to close out that first half of the day, we had Derek Sandison, the Director of Ag, speak on behalf of all agriculture in Washington. And it was great to have him make the trip over and give an update for the whole ag sector for Washington state.”

Tschirky says the Summer Meeting is their half-yearly gathering, the other being the Potato Expo, coming up in Dallas in January …

TSCHIRKY … “Us, that are on the executive committee, are excited to go see the venue and make plans so we can come back to our home states and tell everybody what to expect.”

Registration for the Potato Expo opens on September 15th, so start making your plans for the Dallas meeting today.
