From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Folks from the potato industry gathered in Coeur d’Alene last week for the National Potato Council’s Summer Meeting.

NPC President, and Washington state grower, Ted Tschirky says the weather was great and there was plenty of news to share …

TSCHIRKY … “Well, as an industry gets together throughout the years, with summer being sort of a halfway benchmark for the industry and just gives updates of what’s going on in the National Potato Council world.”

Topics, Tschirky says covered a range of current issues from trade to environmental to just the progress and what’s happening in Washington D.C. …

TSCHIRKY … “Well, as we progress here in D.C., everybody doesn’t know what their thinking of the tariffs and, you know, and one of the positive things that might

come out of this possibly get our door open in Japan.”

The meetings, Tschirky says involved interesting guest speakers as well …

TSCHIRKY … “We kicked of our general session, we had Mark Pavic come in from WSU potato researchers and talk about the importance of the funding between federal, state and industry support which was very informative for the group, and I think the people appreciated that.”

Listen tomorrow for what else happened at the National Potato Council’s Summer Meeting … last week in Coeur d’Alene.
