IPM With Altacor. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Yesterday we began a conversation with Lars Swanson, Rynaxypyr portfolio manager for DuPont Crop Protection about their product Altacor. With growing season upon us it is time to look at your pest management system especially after a mild winter.

SWANSON: Staying on a very solid program in that first generation with Altacor is going to help assure that the season turns out in the way that they want it to from an insect control standpoint and ultimately the yielded crop.

It is important that your timing is good with Altacor.

SWANSON: With the first generation you really want to make sure you nail it right and hit and disrupt the codling moth at each opportunity. So you can think about early mating disruption program that’s in the orchard. Also bringing in an IGR early to get after and set up for the egg lay period.

He says that’s important to get a good clean start.

SWANSON: And then Altacor would come in in that first larvacide application followed by another one 14 to 17 days later. That really covers that first generation, disrupts the insect, keeps the pressure low later in the season and assures that the quality of that apple crop can be what it can be and not be affected season long by those insects.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
