Board Appointment

Board Appointment. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Kevin Moffitt, president and CEO of Pear Bureau Northwest has been appointed to the board of United Fresh.

MOFFIT: Well United Fresh is an organization that looks after a lot of the issue of the produce industry as a whole. It’s an excellent organization and I’m pleased to be asked to serve on their board. They really cover issues such as regulation issues, water issues, labor issues.

He says there is a relatively big issue coming up for discussion.

MOFFIT: A couple of the topics that I think will be discussed at an upcoming meeting really that’s interesting is the discussions of merging the United Fresh Association and the Produce Marketing Association. The Produce Marketing Association is known more for their convention and United Fresh is more on the lobby and issues side but both of them have conventions and both of them have people that do the lobbying

And as always there are discussions on food safety issues.

MOFFIT: You know it just seems like there’s so many recalls these days and people getting sick and actually people dying from salmonella or e.coli or something and that’s a hot topic for many of us in the produce industry. But farm bill issues are full steam ahead right now on Capital Hill and these are things we need to be concerned with.
