DuPont's Altacor

DuPont’s Altacor. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The tree fruit season in the northwest is just getting underway and now is a great time to review your IPM system. Lars Swanson, Rynaxypyr portfolio manager for DuPont Crop Protection talks about their product Altacor.

SWANSON: Altacor is a great product for the tree fruit market and the apple market particularly for first generation codling moth control. Sets up for a great season a ultimately a high quality yield at harvest.

Swanson says that Altacor helps preserve beneficial insects as well.

SWANSON: Altacor has a groundbreaking mode of action. It’s a new group 28 product which has a nice profile where it affectively controls the target insects in the apple market in that first generation codling moth. At the same time it helps preserve beneficial insects so you avoid problems later in the season that may cause you to have to come back in and treat for other things such as aphids or leaf rollers, those types of things.

He says we should really look back at how this winter was or wasn’t as the case is.

SWANSON: A couple of things folks want to look at is how were conditions this winter and you might think a winter sets up for greater pressure, insect pressure during the season and actually in the northwest things aren’t really affected by overwintering conditions generally but they can result in some things folks want to look for like maybe a longer drawn out first generation spraying season.

More tomorrow with Lars Swanson.
