Hostess Gifts

Hostess Gifts

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. With Thanksgiving behind us we are fully into the holiday season and I am looking at so many parties and get together events that I hardly know what to do about hostess gifts and what wine to bring. I am imagining that you are too, so let’s chat.

I think it is rather traditional to bring a little something a gift of some sort to express your appreciation to a host or hostess for having a holiday party. Lots of folks bring a blooming cactus or a poinsettia. That is nice but I’m more into food and beverage. One thing I have grown fond of giving is a wine with a little written description and a recommendation to put it aside and enjoy it at a later date. I also like to give a bottle of Ruby Port and some nice high quality chocolate.  It is something they can pop open and serve in January to ward off the winter blahs. If the host is a cook I like to bring an unusual vinegar or verjus for them to experiment with. If I have time I will even print out a recipe suggestion.  For example; a delicious pear vinegar, with a recipe for a winter salad is a gift many cooks appreciate. This year for the cooks on my list I am planning to give a favorite quick soup recipe and a bottle of the sherry used to make it.

You can buy several bottles and give the same recipes etc. to all of the hosts on your list. Remember to send your wine questions to linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
