Leftovers

Leftovers

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today is the day after Thanksgiving; which is personally my very favorite holiday. Let’s talk wine and the holiday leftovers.

Yumm – I love leftovers and that is another reason I love Thanksgiving. When you have most of the traditional turkey dinner fixings you are able to create some fabulous leftovers. Shepherd’s pie made with turkey, veggies, gravy, and mashed potatoes, all leftover, is one of my favorites and it really does taste good with a nice red wine such as Cabernet Sauvignon or even a hearty Zinfandel. If you aren’t in the mood for red go for an Australian Semillon or a dry Washington Riesling. Another dish I look forward to, made from mostly leftovers is the turkey pot pie. I think lighter reds such as Grenache are nice with them and a simple white blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon is very satisfying. When a turkey sandwich is in your future, consider a glass of apple cider to accompany it. Quality apple cider seems to be making a comeback and is improving immensely.  Explore your options and be willing to pay a little more for an authentic product.  If you make a mean turkey soup I recommend adding some roasted garlic to it. For some reason it ratchets up the savory component and whether you add noodles rice or no starch it will go well with most any wine or beer. So for now – Eat drink and be merry for come January second – we diet! Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
