Record Breaking Auction. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
Washington wine lovers recently had the opportunity to bid on wine and help out Children's Hospital at the 20th Anniversary Auction of Washington Wine. Carol Munro is the executive director of the auction and she tells us the final tally.
MUNRO: 1.95 over the weekend's results. It was fabulous.
That's 1.95 million dollars. Munro says the proceeds are for two great causes.
MUNRO: The primary beneficiary of the auction is the Children's Hospital and this goes to the uncompensated care fund. The Children's Hospital has a policy of turning no child away regardless of their ability to pay, so these funds are critical to the mission of the hospital. We also give a small portion of the money to the Washington Wine Education Foundation which funds higher education and viticulture and enology in Washington State.
The auction this year was fun-filled 3-day event and as a tribute to the 20th anniversary of the auction a portion of the event was a costumed event.
MUNRO: We did for the gala auction, it was the Roaring 20th Anniversary so people were encourage to wear 1920's attire and they did. It was phenomenal how many people got into the spirit and came in costume. It really made it really enjoyable, lots of fun.
