Second Harvest
From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson. As our food becomes more expensive, more people are hungry, going without. That’s where groups like Second Harvest in Spokane come in to help ease the problem, thanks to help from Northwest food producers.
Second Harvest’s Eric Williams says they are here to help put food in the hands of the folks who need it …
WILLIAMS … “We’re the food bank for food banks that serves 26 counties across Central and Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Last year, we distributed 41 million pounds of food. For context, that’s about the equivalent of 18 semi loads a week.”
And that, Williams says is a lot of food …
WILLIAMS … “Our job is to get large amounts into our warehouse, and then we distribute it out through a network of more than 230 food banks and pantries across that 26-county region.”
And for those in the Ag community who want to learn more about Second Harvest, or if you’d like to help …
WILLIAMS … “Reach out to me, eric.williams@2-harvest.org . We’d love to hear from you. Our food sourcers are really, really good and they have great relationships. But we’re always looking for new partners especially in the ag community, whether its growing or processing. Again, that’s the generosity that we rely on so heavily to help feed our neighbors in need.”
Again, the eric.williams@2-harvest.org
