Cherry Institute Joins WSTFA Annual Meeting
From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. We told you last month that the Washington State Tree Fruit Association’s Annual Meeting and the Cherry Institute will be partnering for the first time this year.Good Fruit Grower editor Kate Prengaman, who helps put together the Cherry Institute every year, says she just kind of stumbled upon the idea …
PRENGAMAN … “Last year during the Tree Fruit Association’s annual meeting, which was a great meeting, I was sitting in the cherry session and I was listening to some of the speakers tackle the exact same topics that I had just lined up some speakers to speak on a month later at our Cherry Institute.”
That’s when, Prengaman says it hit her …
PRENGAMAN … “But I started to text my colleague Karly Lange, who runs domestic promotions for Northwest Cherries and is a big part of planning the Cherry Institute, and saying this is something that maybe we need to get creative about, instead of doing the same thing twice. It doesn’t feel right.”
So, Prengaman says they took this proposal to WSTFA …
PRENGAMAN … “We approached Jon and Kamaly with the idea and they loved it. They immediately saw the opportunity to simplify something for growers and for the vendors who support them and, you know, do a little more with a little less and just be more efficient.”
Prengaman says this will make for a full three days, but believes folks have the stamina to pull it off.
