Fall is Harvest Time

From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. Autumn in the Pacific Northwest means it’s harvest time for our wonderful Washington apples.

And from what he’s hearing, Washington State Tree Fruit Association president, Jon DeVaney says the quality is great, but a recent decision to hold off on volume estimates means we’ll have to wait for volume totals …

DeVANEY … “There have been so many market influences on what finally does get harvested and brought to market that our board has decided, based on a lot of feedback from the industry, that rather than trying to do a numeric estimate that is harder to do, given all these variables around market conditions that are having more and more influence on actual harvest numbers, that we’ll wait until December 1st when harvest is completed to put an official number.”

But still, DeVaney says both our delicious apples and pears are coming off the trees now for us to enjoy …

DeVANEY … “A good reminder that this is a great time of year to really enjoy our industries products. You know, fall is synonymous with apple harvest and pear harvest. And this is a great time to really highlight our products, to enjoy them, to recommend them to your friends and neighbors and extended family. And make sure that people get that great experience and connect it back to the people who produce these crops. Now is a great time to be talking about our industry and what the folks in our industry do.”

Again, that’s WSTFA president, Jon DeVaney.
