More on FIRA USA
From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. As FIRA USA in Yakima quickly approaches, October 20-22, there are some who still wonder what you might see if you attend. One thing, Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission Executive Director, Ines Hanrahan says is this Ag technology conference has a special day for techies from outside of agriculture …
HANRAHAN … “For example, before the actual FIRA, we have the day before an event we call “Horticulture for Engineers” where basically engineers can learn how crops are grown, what are the most important things, so they can better assist us in the future.”
And, Hanrahan says you can learn about how Ag Tech improves the efficiency of farming …
HANRAHAN … “We also have a field day that we call “Smart Farm Field Day” where we then show equipment that is already usable right now and where we basically want to showcase this to growers on how to best utilize some of the most advanced technologies in the field right now.”
Which, Hanrahan says can help conserve the use of things like water when availability is limited …
HANRAHAN … “For example, by using censor technologies and new sprinklers in their efficient way, we can, for example, reduce water consumption for trees by 50%, but don’t affect the trees, the apples, for example, from something like sunburn.”
