Looking for bodies. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
Remember the posters of Uncle Sam pointing directly at you demanding your attention? Well it's not quite the same but the Washington Wine Commission is looking for a few good people. Executive Director of the Commission, Vicky Scharlau.
SCHARLAU: The Washington Wine Commission has 13 voting members and of those there are 5 growers and 5 wine producers. They're of course staggered so this coming July 1 there will be two positions that are up for re-election. One of those is an open position and one is actually has somebody that's going to re-run for that position.
According to Scharlau there are certain criteria for the position.
SCHARLAU: There are requirements by statute; the position needs to be of a certain age, they need to be able to prove that a majority of their income comes from wine grape growing, they need to just from a realistic perspective have people that understand and have been involved in the industry and really have a commitment to being part of the Washington Wine Commission to support the mission of promotion and marketing of Washington wines worldwide.
The deadline is rapidly approaching.
SCHARLAU: We need to have names submitted to us before May 11th and then at the May 15th Board meeting the Wine Grape Growers Board go through and interviews each of the candidates before we send those names on to the Department of Agriculture.
That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
