School Lunch Never Sounded This Good
Fair warning: I’m probably about to make you hungry.
Florida just crowned its newest Future Chef, and the winning menu included Cast Iron Panhandle Chicken, First Coast Corn Crostinis and Sunshine Matcha Mangos. Yes, apparently school lunch can sound that good.
Logan Whisenhunt of Pinellas County took first place in the sixth annual Florida Future Chef competition, earning $5,000 in college funds.
The statewide contest challenges students to create meals that meet National School Lunch Program standards while celebrating Florida agriculture. Logan’s winning dish featured Florida-grown lettuce and oranges and earned top marks for flavor, presentation and use of local foods.
Three finalists cooked their dishes live in Tampa, with Chicken Parm Fries and Mini Cottage Pie also making the menu.
But beyond some seriously good-sounding food, the idea is to help students make the connection between what’s on their plate, where it was grown and the farmers behind it.
