Georgia Looks to Grow Rural Veterinary Care
Finding a veterinarian is one thing. Finding one who works with cattle and other livestock in a rural community can be another story entirely.
Georgia is trying to bring more veterinarians to the places that need them most. The Georgia Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications for the 2027 Georgia Veterinary Education Loan Repayment Program.
The program helps repay student loans for veterinarians who commit to practicing in designated rural areas and providing care for food animals in communities facing critical veterinary shortages.
Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper says the program can help veterinarians establish practices while strengthening services available to farmers and livestock producers.
Applicants must live in Georgia and either be a licensed practicing veterinarian or a veterinary student in their final year. They must also commit to working in a Board-approved rural county with a population of 50,000 or less.
Applications are due Monday, November 2nd.
