Animal Ag Alliance Is Here to Help

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. We are seeing a lot more protests across the country lately, and that includes so-called “animal rights activists” who continue to make life harder for many farmers and ranchers.

Emily Ellis, Communications Director at the Animal Ag Alliance, says they are here to help when it comes to tracking these individuals and alerting you when necessary …

ELLIS … “So, we monitor these animal rights groups. You know, we want to do that for farmers and ranchers and people with boots on the ground that we know are very busy. They have a lot of other things that they’re trying to monitor and get done during the day. So, we’re happy to do this monitoring so that you guys don’t have to but then want to share those insights back because it is important for everyone to be aware.”

Ellis says there are things you can do on the farm to make you a harder target …

ELLIS … “Including having animal welfare policies, employment policies, making sure that you’re not unintentionally hiring someone who’s going to be a bigger headache down the road.”

And worse-case scenario, Ellis says are those who surprise you …

ELLIS … “How do you handle unexpected visitors? If someone shows up that you don’t know who they are, should you be letting them have access to the farm, or should there be some kind of vetting process to make sure that they are who they say that they are and that they do have good intentions when visiting?”
