Cooperative Ventures, a joint venture between CHS and Growmark, has invested in Open Tug, which is a logistics technology company transforming inland and coastal marine transportation, according to CHS Director of Enterprise Strategies and Ventures, Rob Uhlemann, director of enterprise strategy and ventures at CS and he says this carries a number of benefits for the agriculture industry.

“Yeah, so they are a startup, and they've got a cloud AI-based platform that monitors barges that move up and down the riverways. So, in particular, for us, they aggregate a lot of data that would be coming from various barge companies, they use GPS, they scan websites, and then they bring it all together in kind of a command center format.”

Rob Uhlemann, director of enterprise strategy and ventures at CHS, says that CHS has had transportation systems in place for decades, but when a technology shift came along that could make operations easier, they made the shift to Open Tug.

“It was really unique to find Open tug at playing in the barge space with an AI cloud-based platform that could help us really analyze information much faster and make much more impactful decisions. Helps us drive efficiency and, in turn, better planning and moving grain. And every cent counts. So our hope is that we're able to return value to the agricultural community by doing all this.”
