Net Farm Income-AFBF
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. Net farm income is expected to increase more than 40% from last year. And at first glance, American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall says those numbers might give some farmers reason for optimism …
DUVALL … "Recent farm income numbers look good at first glance, but when you look closer, there is real concern in farm country. Net farm income this year is expected to be almost 180-billion dollars – an increase from 2024.”
But Duvall says you’ve got to dig a bit deeper to determine the true health of the farm economy and what that means …
DUVALL … “That looks like a win. But in reality, assistance for losses in 2023 and 2024 accounts for a significant portion of this year’s numbers.”
And, Duvall says that means different things for different producers …
DUVALL … “While cattle farmers are seeing improved prices, our row crop farmers will see billions of dollars in losses, and the cost of running our farms continues to increase.”
Duvall says there are things Congress could do and should do to help ...
DUVALL … “We need progress on trade, increased use of renewable fuels, a modernized labor system and a new farm bill. That’s the only way to truly increase farm income.”
Again, that’s Zippy Duvall, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation.
