Robots and AI in the Kitchen and House Ag Committee Budget
From the Ag Information Network, this is your Agribusiness Update.**Professors at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, are conducting a multiyear research project on the ethical implications of robotics and artificial intelligence in the kitchen.
The professors are traveling to Rome to participate in a workshop hosted by the Vatican, meeting with scientists, industry experts, religious leaders and philosophers to discuss automation and food.
Philosophy professor, Patrick Lin says this is our most interdisciplinary project, because food touches on just about every discipline at Cal Poly.
**The House Ag Committee voted along party lines to advance legislation that would cut as much as $300 billion in food aid spending to pay for Republicans’ domestic policy bill and some farm bill programs.
The measure now goes to the House Budget Committee for consideration before a full floor vote.
Politico says the GOP proposal would create the largest overhaul in decades to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
**U.S. retail egg prices dropped from the record-high prices
they hit earlier this year.
Government data shows the average price of a dozen Grade A eggs dropped to $5.12 last month after a record $6.23 in March.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, it was the first month-to-month drop in egg prices since last October.
The Associated Press reports the 12.7% drop in egg prices was the steepest in 30 years.
