Summer Grilling Safety and Farm Production Costs Forecast to Drop
From the Ag Information Network, this is your Agribusiness Update.**Senator Amy Klobuchar, the Ranking Member of the Senate Ag Committee, reacted to the potential $290 billion in cuts to SNAP proposed by Republicans on the House Ag Committee.
She says instead of working with Democrats to lower costs from President Trump’s tariffs, House Republicans decided to pull the rug out from under families by cutting SNAP benefits.
Klobuchar says these cuts make it harder for Congress to pass a bipartisan farm bill.
**As people kick off the summer by firing up the grill for your next cookout, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection
Service shares some tips to keep your celebrations safe.
Key recommendations include cleaning grill surfaces with soap and water and making sure old residue is scraped off.
Preventing cross-contamination is another key recommendation that includes using separate plates, cutting boards, and utensils for raw and cooked foods.
**Farm sector production expenses are the costs of all inputs used to produce farm commodities, which directly affect farm profitability.
These expenses, including those associated with operator dwellings, are forecast to decrease by $13.4 billion, or 2.9%, this year.
This follows a projected decline of $20.9 billion from 2023 to 24.
But the forecast declines in expenses in 2024 and 25 are expected to be less than the increases in 2022 and 23.
