Georgia Beef Producers Renew Commission Assessment

Georgia cattle producers have once again voted to continue the Georgia Beef Commission assessment, extending the Georgia Beef Commission Marketing Order through 2029 and continuing producer-funded investments in research, education and promotion.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture says producers approved the renewal with 82 percent of ballots cast in favor. The assessment will remain at one dollar per head on beef cattle sold in Georgia with a value greater than one hundred dollars. It's a producer-approved program that's reviewed every three years to determine whether cattle producers want it to continue.

While this is a Georgia program, the work it supports has broader value across the Southeast. According to the Georgia Department of Agriculture, more than four million dollars has been invested since the assessment began 13 years ago, supporting research projects, in-state education and promotion efforts that positively impact beef producers.

While the measure received strong support, about 18 percent of voting producers opposed continuing the assessment. With the referendum complete, the Georgia Beef Commission Marketing Order will remain in effect through 2029.
