California Lettuce Growers Costs and SCOTUS Lifts Injunction on CTA

Agriculture podcast, host Gary Sack discussed a recent study that found the cost to California lettuce growers who complied with the state’s environmental, labor and food safety regulations, increased by a whopping 63.7% in the past seven years.

Increased regulations brought the total cost of compliance to $1,600 per acre, accounting for more than 12% of total production, even as farmgate values remained unchanged.

**National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Executive Director of Government Affairs Kent Bacus reacted to the Supreme Court’s decision to lift the injunction that temporarily halted enforcement of the Corporate Transparency Act’s reporting requirements.

The Court placed a previous injunction on hold.

Reuters says enforcing the law is still blocked and companies aren’t required to report the information resulting from a separate order issued January 7 by a U.S. District Judge in Texas.

**The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture’s member-led Board of Directors chose five issues to serve as the organization’s primary policy focus for 2025.

The priorities include a new farm bill, food systems, pesticide regulation, PFAS, and state cooperative agreement funding.

Among the main priorities, NASDA will advocate for policies and programs that fortify U.S. food systems, enhance supply chain resilience, and improve reliable access to nutritious foods.
