White House Worries Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. The deportation of ALL undocumented immigrants, including many who work in agriculture, would be huge negative for the ag industry. But, National Potato Council CEO, Kam Quarles says if it turns out the focus is on those who’ve come to our country for nefarious reasons, and not those hear for legitimate jobs in agriculture, that would be hard to argue with …
QUARLES … “I would hope as they have success in doing that, it will take some of the pressure off from attacking these incredibly valuable farm workers and maybe open up a window where we can actually get some ag labor reform where you can take a currently insecure workforce , whose doing a lot of great things for the United States right now, and give them status where they don’t have to worry about farms being shut down, they don’t have to worry about getting tossed in jail and thrown out of the country.”
Quarles says the ways things are currently isn’t working, so
moving forward …
QUARLES … “Maybe this renewed focus on the bad actors who are here and have exploited our immigration system will provide a window to deal with things that, ag labor reform done properly could provide a tailwind for the U.S. economy that would carry us for decades.”
Again, that’s Kam Quarles, CEO of the National Potato Council.
