E15 Out West Pt 2

From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. E15, gas blended with 15% ethanol, burns cleaner and produces fewer greenhouse gases than conventional fuel. And since it’s produced from grains like corn, it’s good for the rural economy.

But I haven’t been able to find E15 at the pump, which made me wonder if, since it has been approved here, is E15 actually available in Washington state? …

BLILEY … “Not yet but hoping to change that soon.”

Growth Energy’s Chris Bliley says the West Coast availability is not quite there yet …

BLILEY … “Certainly working to do that. I mean, California has significantly benefited from E85. In fact, they’ve had significant increases in the use of E85 and Ethanol blends in California. But we’re working through the regulation to get E15 approved in the state. But E15 is approved in Oregon and Washington and, really, in all but California and Montana at this point.”

And, Bliley says E15 is less expensive than conventional gas …

BLILEY … “It has always been at least a nickel if not more in savings, even at other times, when prices have been a little bit different. But again, I think today we’re seeing the spread is fairly significant, you know, as much as 50-60 cents with Ethanol trading at nearly a dollar less than gasoline on wholesale.”

Bliley says we need a national solution in place so that E15 is available for both retailers and consumers year-round.
