Newhouse Op-Ed on USMCA Pt 1
I’m Bob Larson. U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse has teamed up with two other House members, with common agricultural backgrounds, on a joint op-ed, in the popular political website The Hill, to make sure their Congressional colleagues understand the importance of the USMCA …
NEWHOUSE … “Former directors, Secretaries of Agriculture from Kentucky and Tennessee and I joined forces to help get the word out to folks around the country of the importance of ratifying this agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada.”
The goal, Newhouse says was reaction …
NEWHOUSE … “And the reason we did that, frankly, is so that people would contact their members of Congress to encourage them to bring as much pressure as they could to leadership to bring this USMCA to the floor for a vote so that we can ratify it, so that we can approve it and move forward with the kind of trading environment that we should have with our two closest neighbors.”
And, Newhouse says the op-ed piece seems to have stirred the pot …
NEWHOUSE … “That was our goal and we’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from folks that have seen that article.”
Newhouse says, we must build on these trade relationships to show Americans and the world that the U.S. is open for business.
