Colorado celebrates it 143rd year of statehood in August. And it's deep ties to agriculture are illustrated in the fact that the Colorado Proud program of the Department of Agriculture, is celebrating its 20th anniversary throughout August.

"This year is particularly special as we're celebrating our 20th anniversary of the Colorado Proud program which has grown from 65 members when it started in 1999 to now over 2700 members in the program."

Colorado Proud Spokesperson Wendy White says the program's 20th anniversary coincides with a growing consumer population that prefers to eat local foods, while boosting Colorado's environment, and economy.

She says there is a complete list of all the tour stops on the website www.coloradoproud.org.

State records indicate agriculture consistently ranks as one of Colorado's leading industries and is in the top 10 nationally for production of a variety of agricultural products. With more than 38,000 farms and nearly 32 million acres, agriculture supports more than 170,000 jobs, and contributes more than $40 billion to the state's economy. Ag exports amount to nearly $2 billion in products every year.
