Irrigation and Water Management Survey
Many Colorado producers who answered the National Census of Agriculture questionnaire are being asked to do the same for the Irrigation and Water Management Survey.
Joe Parsons, National Ag Statistics Board Chair says this is one of a handful of follow up surveys after the Ag Census.
"We survey those that reported that they had irrigation or the capability to irrigation in the Census of Agriculture. We go out to farmers and ranchers and others with greenhouses that use irrigation as part of their operation. We ask about practices and other things related to irrigation."
He says there is a trend toward more efficient irrigation systems nationwide.
The deadline to respond is March 8th. The report will be released in November.
Meanwhile, things look good for Colorado's snowpack. The state's eight river basins are above normal for mid February. The Arkansas basin is nearly 20% above normal while the San Juan and Upper Rio Grande basins in southwest Colorado are above normal for the first time in months. State officials say there's still about two thirds of the snowpack accumulation season remaining.
