Senator Bennet on Tariffs
Colorado Senator Michael Bennet says the Trump administration's steel and aluminum tariffs concerns Colorado farmers.
During a hearing of the Senate Finance Committee Bennett told U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer the sudden announcement and lack of coordination with states is creating uncertainty at time when producers already face low commodity prices.
"This isn't a business transaction for real estate in New York City, this is the trade policy of the United States of America. And I wish you guys would consult with us or just the Republicans so that you can understand the effect you're having in places like Weld County Colorado where we need to have strong commodity prices and where 80 percent of our wheat is exported overseas.
Mr. Lighthizer said several countries would receive temporary exemptions from the tariffs including Mexico, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, South Korea, and the European Union. In addition, he said negotiations continue on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
