Blogger Educates Moms About Meat Counter Choices
Last week I had the opportunity to meet one of the fabulous ag bloggers I follow — Mom at the Meat Counter .... or Dr. Janeal Yancey who is a meat scientist at the University of Arkansas. Her blog shares information about meat and food in general and her main audience is moms or consumers.I asked Dr. Yancey what advice she'd give to those farmers or ranchers who are considering beginning a blog. She shares
Yancey: "What I tell people is do it. Just jump off the cliff and get going. Because what you do when yo first get into it may or not be your eventual brand - -but you've got to do something. So just get started. The second piece of advice I always give is find a network. That is the big thing because then you have a posse. If you have problems with your blog, you don't know how to do something you have people to go to. If you are in the ag world and you are going to run into some controversial topics, and you have folks attacking you then you've got a posse that can come and help you in those controversial times."
Whether sharing information via her blog or in the classroom Yancey's passion is education and agriculture.
Yancey: "I love to education. Everything I do is about education — whether it is the blog or I do tours with non-farm women and then I'm educating kids. I take students to meat plants and show them agriculture from around the world. Anything I'm doing to teach people about the meat industry or agriculture — then I'm pretty happy."
