Good Day for the World & Ag-Gag Law

Good Day for the World & Ag-Gag Law

Good Day for the World & Ag-Gag Law. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

Washington's Governor Jay Inslee was recently in Paris for the COP21 climate summit, one of only 3 U.S. governors. He was elated at the climate agreement signed by 196 nations.

INSLEE:This Paris agreement is a big deal. It's a big deal for the world. It's a big deal for the state of Washington. This means that the world has pushed the 'go button' on the fight against climate change. And it means we in the state of Washington, and our grandkids, have a shot at what they deserve. And we ought to be proud of our state. We're leading with the pacific coast with California, Oregon and British Columbia in the fight against climate change. And we know we can build a clean energy economy. So this is something that we ought to be proud of. We're leaders in the state of Washington. We're now going to lead the fight against climate change and now we know we've got partners. Good day for the world. Good day for the state of Washington.

Idaho wants to overturn the state's "ag-gag law." The state has filed an appeal of a federal court's decision to overturn the law which makes it a crime to secretly videotape agriculture operations. The law was passed back in 2014 after an animal rights group released video of abuse at an Idaho dairy. In August that law was invalidated by a federal court saying it violated the First Amendment. Eight states have similar laws against videotaping ag operations. Groups like the Idaho Dairymen and the Idaho Farm Bureau want the "ag-gag law" back in place.

That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
