Potatoes Raise the Bar School Nutrition Program is Launched

School Nutrition Association, a national organization that supports the school system's school nutrition professionals, just held its annual Nutrition Conference where more than 2,000 people attended. The United States Potato Board launched its new and exciting campaign Potatoes Raise the Bar school nutrition program that aims to increase the number of healthy potato options on school menus as well as providing school nutrition professionals new, nutritious and innovative ways to use potatoes for school meals.

USPB Global Nutrition Marketing Manager Meredith Myers shares

Myers: "There was an overwhelmingly positive response to the information we were offering because it was new and it was surprising. They wanted to get on our list because they want more information from us and they are also excited to see what we do. The job of a school food service director is obviously number one to provide healthy meals to their students but the other thing is that they have to ensure participation in order to keep their kitchens and cafeterias profitable. So it is very important they they have new and different ideas and they look at potatoes as an avenue to do that. The other very important thing is that we are establishing a presence in this market. We are establishing our presence with schools but also with the movers and the shakers and the influencers."
