Colorado Agricultural Leadership Program

Colorado Agricultural Leadership Program

Colorado Agricultural Leadership Program. I'm Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

Leadership in the ag industry is crucial to the growth and sustainability of the industry. The Colorado Agricultural Leadership Program helps prepare men and women for a role in ag leadership according to Angie Cue.

CUE: Colorado Ag Leadership is a two-year program that enhances the leadership skills of the Coloradans across the state that have an involvement within agriculture. We recruit people that are either production agriculture, farmers ranchers or they can be in ag business.

The two-year commitment is a bit misleading but it does take time.

CUE: We meet about every other month and when we do it's for two to three days at a times. We also connect with each other between those sessions with emails, blogs, interacting in that way. One of the projects that we do as a class is we produce and manage the Governor's Forum on Agriculture and that event takes a lot of time, energy and effort so if you are on that committee to work on this event there is a lot of time invested in that.

Classes do a fair amount of traveling to see how ag works in both Colorado and other states as well as trips to Washington DC and a foreign trip.

CUE: To capstone the class we take an international travel study trip and we try to pick a place that has something to do with Colorado trade when it comes to our agricultural products. The last class we did go to China. We learned a lot about how trade with China affects the Colorado economy.

And that's today's report. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening to Colorado Ag Today on the Ag Information Network of the West.
