Washington Grown Season Two

I’m Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.

The Washington Grown campaign is a joint effort by various farm groups throughout the state to help people have a better understanding of what’s going on on today’s farms and ranches. It was officially launched in the spring of 2013, and one of the hallmark pieces of the campaign has been the “Washington Grown” TV show. Ryan Holterhoff with the Washington State Potato Commission says that they are getting ready to launch the second season of the award winning production this Sunday on Northwest Cable News.

HOLTERHOFF: We’re excited for season 2 to be launching here this weekend kind of officially. It’s something we’ve been working on throughout the summer and even started early in the spring mapping out what stories do we want to tell.

This new season will once again have 13 episodes highlighting and covering commodities grown and produced within our state.

HOLTERHOFF: That might be potatoes, that might be wheat, that might be apples - or one of the many other commodities that we have. And it really helps to tell that story of what it takes to get that item from the fields to someone’s plate. One of the things we try to focus on is really the food, and so we have a lot of great local restaurants throughout the state that really focus and try to provide some of these local items to their customers. We’ve had a great time being able to go out and meet with some of them and have them tell us why the producers here in Washington are so important to what they’re providing at their restaurant.

Two episodes of Washington Grown will be debuted at a Preview Party tonight at the Magic Lantern Theatre in Spokane. Once aired all Washington Grown episodes will be available on the Washington Grown website at www.wagrown.com.

That’s Washington Ag Today.
