Breakfast Briefings & Labor Lunches

I’m Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.

Beginning August 5th the Washington Farm Labor Association will be conducting a series of briefings on the labor issues that concern farmers and seasonal employers the most. WAFLA’s Dan Fazio explains.

FAZIO: What we are doing is compiling 2 – 4 page management briefings for employers on the top labor and employment issues that are impacting agriculture employers right now, and then what we’re going to do is review those briefings with employers over a breakfast or lunch.   We’ve taken 5 topics, and we have prepared 15 minute briefings on each topic to go along with the write up and then we’ll provide that briefing sheet - a nice breakfast or lunch, and we’re going to go out to all the local agriculture areas across the state.

There are ten meetings scheduled through the week with top experts in attendance.

FAZIO: For example, we have a CPA from Moss Adams providing the absolute latest in how to comply with Obamacare.  Then a briefing on immigration reform and we’ll fly people in from different areas of the country to talk about that issue   Then a series of management briefings on 3 hot labor issues – the Department of Labor hot goods issue, the EEOC sexual harassment issue, and then changes in the WA state farm labor contractor law that were caused by a really unfortunate court decision.

For more information on meeting times, locations and registration requirements go to wafla.org or call 360-455-8064 ext. 2.
